SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) unequivocally condemns all forms of violence, threats, and hate-motivated actions. Our organization does not support any behavior that endangers the safety or well-being of any individual or community.
In light of recent events, we would like to acknowledge that federal immigration enforcement actions and public safety incidents have caused significant concern, grief, and anxiety for our students, families, and communities. The widespread demonstrations and heightened tensions in Minnesota have reinforced the importance of responding through peaceful and lawful engagement. The current devastating events do not reflect the mission, values, leadership, staff, or student body of SSCCC, nor the more than 2.2 million California Community College students we represent statewide.
Our mission is to empower students to engage in self-advocacy, civic participation, and leadership. We support our students in exercising their First Amendment rights, including freedom of speech and assembly, through peaceful and lawful means. SSCCC does not support or condone any form of violence or unlawful action.
Our students and our communities are hurting and seeking ways to make a difference. Students can be part of the change they want to see, and that work begins on their campuses. We encourage students to seek guidance from advisors, student government leaders, and civic engagement coordinators to engage in peaceful, lawful advocacy that strengthens our communities. Jerry Reyes, SSCCC President
As SSCCC prepares for Advocacy Day and March in March on March 12 at the West Steps of the State Capitol, we invite students, faculty, and community members from across California to join us for this impactful civic engagement opportunity. The day will include meetings with legislators and a peaceful march, centering student voices in the policymaking process. This gathering represents a powerful moment for collective action and student leadership. We remain committed to uplifting student voices, advancing meaningful change, and fostering a safe and respectful environment for all participants. RSVP: March in March 2026
