Fall 2009 General Assembly
We are delighted to announce that this year the Fall General Assembly will be held the 6-8 of November at the Westin St. Francis in downtown San Francisco! In light of the 30% increase in our fees, the system-wide budget reduction of 8%, course cancellations, program and service reductions and the increasing barriers to higher education this year, our assembly will have a strong focus on student advocacy and will strive to provide our students and student leaders the necessary tools to effectively represent your students and work to protect education in our state.
Our theme: S.O.S. (Save Our Schools): Educated Voices Light the Way.
We look forward to working with you to protect education in San Francisco this November!
Please join the Student Senate Council as we host a Candlelight event for all students who are losing their opportunity for an affordable and accessible education.
We will begin gathering at 7:15 PM across from the Westin St. Francis in SanFrancisco's Union Square. Please help your Statewide Student Senate out by bring your blue LED tea lights and see one of our SSCCC tables or your State Student Senators as a limited number of LEDs will be available for
At 7:30 all the students gathered will march silently to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts for a short rally with student speakers including SSCCC President, Reid Milburn and prominent officials and supporters of California Community Colleges and higher education.
At approximately 8:30 PM we will stand in unity and silence to remember those who will be turned away from the opportunity of life improvement and higher education during this state's fiscal crisis.
If you cannot make it to San Francisco for this event, there will be a simultaneous vigil at LA Trade Tech.
We strongly encourage all students, faculty, staff, and supporters to attend.
